UX audit: find the friction that stops users converting
A senior reviewer goes through your onboarding, checkout or core feature, finds the friction, and gives you a fix list ranked by impact and effort, plus a 60-minute walkthrough call.
A UX audit is an expert review of how easy your product is to use, focused on the flows that matter most to your business. We go through your onboarding, checkout or core feature as a new user would, evaluate every step against established usability heuristics, and give you a prioritized list of what to fix.
Signs you need a UX review
- Traffic is fine, conversions aren’t. Visitors arrive, but signups or orders stay flat. Analytics shows you where people drop off, not why.
- Support answers the same “how do I…” questions. If customers keep asking how to do basic things, the interface isn’t telling them.
- Trial users never reach the point where the product clicks. They sign up, look around, and leave before they experience what you built.
- The checkout asks for too much. Account creation before payment, a phone number you never call, or a form that clears itself when one field is wrong.
- Your team can’t see it anymore. Everyone who works on the product knows how it’s supposed to work, which makes it hard to see what a first-time user sees.
How a website usability audit works
We review each flow on desktop and mobile, as a first-time user and as a returning one. At every step we evaluate the interface against established usability heuristics, such as Jakob Nielsen’s ten principles: clear system status, familiar language, user control, consistency, error prevention, recognition over recall, and so on. We add specific checks for the places products usually lose people:
- Forms: field count, labels, input types on mobile, inline validation and error recovery
- Content: whether headings, buttons and messages say what happens next, in the user’s words
- Trust: pricing clarity, security cues at payment, reassurance before commitment
- Feedback: loading states, empty states, confirmation messages and error messages
- Mobile: tap targets, thumb reach, keyboards and content hidden behind sticky elements
If you have analytics or session recordings, we use them to weight findings by how many users each one affects. We use AI to speed up capturing screens, annotating them and cross-checking patterns across the flow. The judgment comes from a senior reviewer, and every finding is written by a person.
We also flag obvious accessibility problems along the way. A full WCAG conformance review is a separate service, our accessibility audit.
Our process
- Kickoff (30–45 minutes). We cover your business goals, the flows in scope (up to three), the metrics you care about and the problems you already suspect.
- Review. We work through each flow on desktop and mobile and document every finding with annotated screenshots.
- Prioritization. Each finding is rated for impact on users and the business, and for effort to fix, so you can see the quick wins at a glance.
- Walkthrough call (60 minutes). We walk your team through the findings, answer questions and agree what to tackle first. The call is recorded so you can share it.
What you do: give us access to the product, join the kickoff and the walkthrough, and share analytics if available. What we do: the review, the documentation, the prioritization and the walkthrough.
From kickoff to walkthrough usually takes one to two weeks.
What you get
- Findings for every flow, each with an annotated screenshot, what the problem is, why it matters and what to change
- A severity rating for every finding
- A fix list prioritized by impact versus effort, with quick wins first
- A 60-minute walkthrough call, recorded for your team
- On request, a quote for implementing the fixes
Who it’s for
A good fit:
- SaaS products with a trial-to-paid or onboarding problem
- E-commerce stores with cart or checkout abandonment
- Startups about to redesign, who want to know what to keep and what to fix
- Teams without a dedicated UX designer
Not a good fit:
- If you need research with real users, such as interviews or moderated usability tests: an expert audit complements that, it doesn’t replace it
- If you need a full redesign or new brand identity
Pricing
We don't publish prices, because scope depends on your product. After a 30-minute call you get a fixed price in writing, before any work starts. No hourly billing.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a UX audit and usability testing?
In a UX audit, an expert reviews your product against established usability principles. In usability testing, you watch real users try to complete tasks. An audit is faster and cheaper, and finds most obvious friction. Testing finds problems specific to your users. Many teams start with an audit, fix the obvious issues, then test.
How many flows does a UX audit cover?
The standard audit covers up to three key flows, for example signup and onboarding, checkout, and your core feature, each reviewed on desktop and mobile. Larger products can add flows; we'll quote them before we start.
What do you need from us?
Access to the product (a test account, or staging if the flows involve payments), 30 to 45 minutes for a kickoff call about your goals and known issues, and, if you have them, analytics or session recordings for the flows in scope.
Will you redesign our screens?
The audit gives you specific recommendations for each issue, with annotated screenshots showing what to change. It is not a redesign. If you want help implementing the fixes, we can quote that separately.
How long does a UX audit take?
Usually one to two weeks from kickoff to walkthrough call, depending on the number and length of the flows.
Does a UX audit include accessibility?
We flag obvious accessibility problems we find along the way, such as low contrast or unlabeled fields, because they also hurt usability for everyone. A UX audit is not a WCAG conformance audit, though. For that, see our accessibility audit.
